NCARB is composed of architectural registration boards of all 50 states in the U.S., the District of Columbia (D.C.), and three U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). The USGBC is composed of thousands of individuals and organizations that are promoting sustainable design in the built environment. One of the USGBC's most notable programs is Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is a green building tool that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. The USGBC also provides continuing education opportunities through conferences, expos, and seminars. Professionals can become credentialed through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), which offers professionals a designation designed to help them stand out in the building industry as individuals who are committed to the promotion and implementation of sustain design in the built environment.
